If the insurance run around weren't bad enough, I just found out that if the guys insurance pays out a settlement beyond basic medical costs due to owing child-support I would never see any settlement cash.

Unclear what happens to the value of the vehicle, but thankfully the car was still in a family friends name and hadn't been transfer to my partner and I yet. So hopefully I don't need to get a family lawyer for that part.

If you’ve been hurt in a car wreck, you may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim. But, it’s important to understand that health insurance liens and subrogation claims, rights of repayment, and healthcare provider liens can all take a bite out of your case. Then there’s another matter to consider: child support liens. If you owe child support and are behind on your payments, a personal injury claim can be a good chance to catch up those payments. All states have the ability to assert a lien against your personal injury claim if you also owe back payments for child support. While your medical provider and health insurance liens are paid back first, child support liens come out of your own share of the settlement or jury verdict. Some states are willing to negotiate their liens, and others are not. It’s critical to have a lawyer advise you on this issue. Many states will hold you in contempt if you settle a personal injury claim and don’t pay back what you owe for child support from your settlement. Most liability insurance carriers will run a background check to determine whether you have a child support obligation, and may not agree to release any funds directly to you until the child support lien is resolved. There are a lot of pitfalls when it comes to liens in general, and child support liens are no exception.

I find this extremely unacceptable and outrageous. How does a billionaire that receives hundreds of millions from U.S. taxpayers gets to snoop into the private lives of hundreds of millions of those same taxpayers? This is plain BANANA REPUBLIC territory!

"The Department of Health and Human Services has granted associates of the U.S. DOGE Service access to a sensitive child support database with troves of income data, overriding the objections of career employees, according to four people familiar with the matter.

The government database — created to help enforce child support payments and overseen by the Administration for Children and Families, or ACF — contains substantial amounts of personal income data linked to nearly all U.S. workers. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

An HHS official confirmed that DOGE received access to the system, saying that DOGE’s agents sought “read-only access” to the system and were required “to take all necessary trainings” before being granted permission to use it.

“ACF supports DOGE’s efforts to improve efficiency and data quality to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in federal programs,” the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal operations, wrote in an email. “ACF will continue to assist DOGE in efforts to strengthen the programs it runs.”"

I keep seeing videos talking about how it’s a myth or a hoax that Trump made it so the person paying child support can claim the child ad a dependent on their taxes, and that may or may not be true, but the New Hampshire Republicans introduced that exact thing.

If anyone sees or hear a discussion about how it’s “fake news” that Trump changed the tax code, please let them know that it’s not the tax code republicans are changing at this time, it’s the state laws.

They already introduced it in New Hampshire.
