@anildash I want a close reading of Prince at the memorial performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Because it is glorious but it is also basically Prince jerking off in front of George's son at his father's funeral. He manages to upstage Tom Waites in his vocal solo!
@nelson oh this is interesting, let me check it out! I’ve been meaning to write about this solo broadly, because I do think a lot of the hagiography of it is essentially just rockist/white gaze reading of his work, but I’m open to being wrong.
@anildash this video is short and seems well sourced. I just thought it was funny watching Prince do his sexy virtuoso thing in front of Dhani at his father's memorial performance. OTOH Dhani seems thrilled in the moment and hell, it is rock-n-roll. The video talks about all that, also connects it to Rolling Stone rankings of best guitarists.
