#GeorgeSantos made his own bed, a bed of lies. But why would he lie so blatantly? And why do other powerful people get away with obvious and harmful lies?
My recent deep dive on the #psychology and #neuroscience of #lying explains the behavior of Santos and other big liars, whose pants rarely end up catching fire, as Santos' did. The nut:
Big, dehumanizing lies are destabilizing society. So why do powerful people spew such BS? And why do people believe them?

George Santos' expulsion from Congress today illustrates that liars' pants can eventually catch fire. It's interesting to note, however, the extent of lying required, and the machinations of justice necessary, to ultimately sideline a pathological liar. Notably, 114 lawmakers voted not to expel Santos. In some minds, prolific, outrageous lying is not enough to disqualify people from important positions of power. I recognize there were concerns of protocol and precedent, but c'mon.
