The latest step in the “VC Qanon” radicalization process, for those who haven’t been following along, is adding their allegiance to the extremist “e/acc” religion to their names on social media, just as they did with “.ETH” when that was in vogue — except this one’s an explicitly eugenicist agenda.

@anildash wait what’s that one mean? I’m familiar with eth but not “e/acc”

@sam @ironchamber @anildash
The rich should recall how chummy RFK was with Hugo Chavez.

@anildash You know a "movement" like this is a mess when the Effective Altruists over at LessWrong have a blog post where they basically just say "we have no idea what the fuck these e/acc people are talking about."

@foxxtrot @anildash So the anarcho-capitalist movement are even too much for LessWrong? Damn, then these people are the ultra-orthodox branch of EAs crazy shit

@anildash maybe they’re just Pascal’s Wagering Roko’s Basilisk.

@anildash there’s something extremely weird about VC’s adopting explicitly anti-elite ideologies. Like, y’all *are* the elites!

@Ashton @anildash It's New Money vs Old Money.

Most of these guys grew up "merely rich." They had access to top-tier education, parents with enough wealth that they always had a safety net, that sort of thing. They still had to do some work to win the lottery that made them "truly rich." As a result, they believe they're somehow better than those with the massive generational wealth that they now plan to give their own children.

It's an obviously inconsistent worldview.

@anildash I thought it was a troll/joke when I read the pitch deck

@anildash it's been uniquely horrifying to watch this garbage spread over the past year or two, from edgy substacks wishcasting a bunch of made up shit about infinite energy and economic growth, to politically active tech billionaires meddling in the politics of the city where i live.
it's way more socially destructive than even crypto was, and all the people who put e/acc in their handles deserve to have it follow them around for years after public opinion has turned against them.

@jplebreton @anildash those people don’t even have the self awareness to feel shame or care.

As long as they get their share of the wealth transfer, it’s on to the next tech grift.

@justinmwhitaker @anildash definitely little to no self awareness or shame, but in this particular case i think it's not a simple mercenary grift; i think a lot of these folks have a great deal of ego bound up in this, as the premise is "are tech people the smartest (highest IQ, as per their openly eugenicist lens) on the planet and the most fit to control the destiny of human society?" - the kinda person who really gets invested in that has a whole worldview that teeters on the present moment.

@anildash these dopes always think they are the ones who understand how the world “really works” when they are just as susceptible if not more susceptible to disinformation on the internet. As usual, everyone needs to get their head outta their asses every now and get a reality check.
