@garbageman @JessTheUnstill Fascism is only one of many ways of being indecent. #McCain suffered from serious PTSD from his years-long captivity as a POW during the Vietnam War. He hated Asians so much that he publicly refused to apologize for having used blatant anti-Asian racial slurs. Having the nuclear-codes "football" in his possession would have frightened me far more than the #Trump #dictatorship does. A confrontation between the #USA and #China with #McCain as President could very easily have escalated to nuclear war.

None of this really mattered as long as he was only a Senator, and his public political positions were indeed more enlightened (relatively speaking) than those of most Republican politicians. But watching him run for President was terrifying. I voted for #Obama in 2008, NOT because I trusted him, but because I wanted to stop #McCain.

@JessTheUnstill Boomer here, age 68. For sheer terror, this present mess doesn't even begin to compare with the thermonuclear menace of the Cold War. Dictatorships can be reversed, and usually at MUCH less cost than for Nazi Germany. But once ICBMs are en route, what can you do?

For the same reason, there was another recent Republican presidential candidate who, had he been elected, would have frightened me far more than #Trump: the viciously xenophobic John "My fellow prisoners" #McCain, who hated Asians so much that he could easily have started the Third World War.

Yes, fear is an important part of my reaction to the Trump regime. But far more so, SHAME and DISGUST. Directed not only at Trump personally, but at every single one of my compatriots who has ever so much as considered supporting him.
