So, whether the software is named for the band or for the critter, it's likely one of ours was the vector.

I mention it because one of our local mastodons, Sugar, needs restoration, and I think Mastodon-the-federated-platform would be an ideal place to find generous contributors to the effort:

Discovery reveals giant flying squirrel once soared over Southern Appalachia

From last October. The pods were still hanging on the honey locust tree because the large Ice Age mammals that used to eat them and spread the seeds just never come around anymore. I read but haven’t tested it that the stuff inside the pods around the seeds is sweeter than honey (not recommended b/c I don’t know if it’s toxic). Someone had a sweet tooth and it seems to be mastodons. Traces of these pods have been found in their manure. 1/2 #mastodons #mastodons #trees #anachronisms

37.8 km/h. That was Tadej Pogacar's average speed for yesterday's tour stage.

I had the same average speed yesterday... But not for long. If I'd been able to keep it up for 200 km instead of just the 10 km distance between home and the start of our group ride, without a howling tail wind, and including climbing several of the Pyranees then perhaps I'd also be in France right now.

We can all dream, but I know of course that that was always way beyond my ability. Pro cycle racers are *astoundingly* strong.

Anyway, here are some photos from yesterday's 100 km ride with @twilwel and @TheoZw, which was carried out at a much more moderate and sociable average speed, including stops for lunch and other things, including visiting some mastodons.

We went to visit some Mastodons, because of course we did.
On the way home now, and it's raining quite hard. This isn't much of a summer, but I'm also happy that we're not in a heat wave. I'm also happy that I'm mostly out of the weather in my velomobile.
