A reminder that we are closer to midnight on the Doomsday clock right now than we ever have since it's inception, including the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Nuclear weapons are not a problem of the past, they are more of a threat than they have ever been.
The doomsday clock is nothing but a subjective "Eh, Like maybe we feel this way today? I guess?" indicator for the feelings of a very non-random group of scientists. It has literally never predicted anything, and isn't even based on a constant set of criteria.
@AlexanderKingsbury Oh if it's subjective that means it's without merit, just like language, experience, and identity
Objectivity isn't even humanly possible. You can attempt to be objective, but all you will ever be is some degree of subjective. If you sincerely believe you are objective, it means you don't really understand what objectivity is.
You are also just as guided by emotion as anyone else. Not knowing that means you are emotionally naive, not objective.
I never claimed subjectivity meant anything was without merit. If you want to make those sorts of claims or accusations, go right ahead.
@AlexanderKingsbury I mean, I did go right ahead... Lol
Yes, many do go right ahead with false accusations. Thank you for making clear that that's what you bring to the table.
@AlexanderKingsbury Like, literally the whole point of the Doomsday clock is to have emotional resonance with people to motivate them to take better care of themselves and the planet.
Without that emotional investment, people don't do anything. If you don't care about something, you aren't going to put time and effort into it.
Even you are motivated by your emotional investment in the things you find appealing.
