This sounds like a common definition problem. There are definitions which could align those two things, but there are others where it's clear one is not the other.

If AI = AGI, then AI != Algo.

If AI = Pattern Identification(eg. LLM), then AI ~= Algo.

Never-the-less, so many people shouting about AI and it's related topics, it's important to call out what we mean when we use the term.
