What's happening in the U.S. right now is terrifying. Today it's antifa. Tomorrow anyone Trump doesn't like.
But accusing opponents of terrorism is nothing new. The coal bosses and press were doing it to the Irish American coal miners and union activists at least as far back as the 1870s.

Why dictatorships love designating groups as terrorist (an observation)
[PLEASE NOTE: I’m not a lawyer and so I may not be right on this in every respect.]
When you designate a group as a terrorist group you put it beyond the reach of the law, or you apply an enhanced law that enables you to exceed normal domestic criminal law and apply military and intelligence assets that are prohibited in the domestic space.
In addition, labelling a group a terrorist group makes it easier to sell their destruction to the public.
There are many examples of governments doing this throughout history.
