I’ve finally completed the so-called “dystopia canon” – Orwell, Atwood, Burgess, Huxley… and now Gattaca. Completion should feel triumphant, but the cost was two hours of cinematic determinism. The premise is sharp – genetic caste systems, eugenics as destiny – yet the script is as rigid as the society it condemns: zero degrees of freedom, every beat preordained. Satisfaction minimal.
