Eco LokiEn prenant cette photographie (et en regardant les autres espèces de pollinisateurs sur cette lavande), j'ai mesuré l'impact local des pesticides. J'ai beau avoir un jardin punk, sans tonte (à part 2-3 allées), sans désherbage, sans produits chimiques, avec une grosse proportion d'essences adaptées, j'ai très peu d'abeilles (et d'autres insectes) chez moi. Et surtout j'ai très peu d'espèces différentes. La raison ? Je vis dans une zone agricole avec de nombreux champs cultivés. Champs qui sont désherbés au glyphosate (avec les teintes oranges et violettes qu'on connaît). Champs qui sont bourrés d'engrais chimiques. Champs qui sont saturés de pesticides en tous genre. Champs sans haies traditionnelles. Champs vides et mort la moitié de l'année. J'ai fait cette photo dans jardin conventionnel et contrôlé avec des tontes hebdomadaires (mais très fleuri et avec quelques éléments intéressants). Un endroit certes vivant mais qui devrait l'être moins que mon jardin punk. Tout ça pour répéter encore une fois que les actes individuels sont importants mais qu'ils ne servent pas à grand chose face un problème collectif et systémique. Eco LokiL'année dernière mes voisins ont abattu un gros et vieux saule pleureur qui abritait beaucoup de vie. Aucune raison particulière à part "on n'aime pas". Suite à ce mini écocide local, j'ai décidé de planter un nouvel arbre dans mon jardin et je me suis fait offrir un mûrier blanc qui a le mérite de pousser vite et de porter des fruits que les oiseaux apprécient. Cette année il a donné sa première récolte et j'ai pu observer, hier soir, depuis ma fenêtre, plusieurs oiseaux qui profitaient des fruits gratuits ! Évidemment la compensation est maigre et il faudra plusieurs années avant de créer un milieu aussi accueillant et équilibré que l'ancien saule des voisins mais j'essaye, à ma hauteur, de limiter les dégâts ici. En tant que propriétaire d'un terrain, je ne suis pas uniquement privilégié, je porte aussi une responsabilité envers le vivant qui m'entoure. Planter ce mûrier pour les animaux fait parti d'un engagement pour ce vivant. Nettoyage qui n'est pas franchement dans les normes du tout rasé, tout tondu, tout désherbé. Ici on ne laisse que quelques allées pour circuler vers la maison, la grange, la voiture et le potager. S'il y avait des ronces je les enlèverai pour les voisins mais la règle c'est le plus de laisser faire le plus possible. D'ailleurs cette année j'ai enlevée une allée parce que des mésanges se sont installées dans un nichoir. Pas question de déranger les petits habitants avec la tonte ! Les moins de cette pratique ? Les voisins qui font des réflexions (mais on les crotte) Les plus ? Tout ! Il y a de la vie, des oiseaux, des insectes, des plantes, des petits mammifères, le terrain reste plus frais que chez les voisins et on a l'impression d'être dans une petite jungle. Rappel : quand on a le privilège d'avoir un jardin, un bout de terrain, on ne détruit pas tout ce qu'il y a dessus. Un bout de nature privatisée, ça pose déjà problème en soit. Cleaning that's not really up to the standard of all trimed, all mowed, all weeded. At my place, we only leave a few paths for walking to the house, the barn, the car and the vegetable garden. If there were brambles, I'd remove them for the neighbours, but the rule is to let things be free as much as possible. Moreover, this year tI removed path because some bluetits have settled in a nesting box. There's no question of disturbing the little inhabitants by mowing! The downside of this practice? The neighbours who make comments (but we poop on them). The pluses? Everything! There's life, birds, insects, plants, small mammals, the ground stays fresher than the neighbours' and you feel like you're in a little jungle. Remember: when you are privileged enough to have a garden, a piece of land, don't destroy everything on it. A privatised piece of nature is problematic in itself.
