Aral Balkan<p>So the other day my Onewheel started pushing back at relatively low speeds. My first thought was, “must be tire pressure.” Pumped up the tire, went out again, same thing. Hmm… could I have inadvertently changed the shaping?</p><p>So I fire up the app to find the setting for the shaping and I’m stumped. There’s nothing about it on the main nav at the bottom. So I look under the hamburger menu and I find a Settings section and go there. Nope, nothing.</p><p>Wtf?</p><p>Literally after staring at the app for ten minutes I accidentally trigger the photo carousel and *bam!* get notified that the shaping has changed.</p><p>Which, clearly, is how I’d fumbled it onto the beginner setting when I ride Pacific.</p><p>The shaping, by the way, is what determines the character of your board and ride. It’s a major thing. It impacts safety. And in this app, it’s set by swiping on a control that looks like a photo gallery of OneWheel pictures.</p><p>🤦♂️ </p><p>Moral of the story for designers: make everyday actions simple to perform, yes, but, equally, make actions that are infrequently performed and/or could have potentially catastrophic consequences hard to perform. I bought a #OneWheel #PintX for Christmas. I took a fall, broke my toe, but that hasn’t stopped me from adding flair. All the videos I watched before I bought it kept saying it was built like a tank. I leaned into that and from that went to the G1 #Transformers episode #Starscream ‘s Armada. Can’t wait to get back to riding! Also, its name is RoadRunner.
