The Broad Collar Necklace in Figure 2.7 was worn by the mummy of Wah, a man. Diminishing lengths of turquoise-colored faience beads strung on linen thread enhance the curved form.
The musicians, dancers, and seated guests in Figure 2.6 are wearing a variety of styles of broad collar necklaces that were popular with both men and women in ancient Egypt. The most expensive necklaces were made of turquoise, lapis lazuli, carnelian, and gold, but others were strung with ceramic and/or Egyptian faience beads that imitated the more costly materials.
