With bobbin lace (also called pillow lace by some), you legit just move a bunch of sticks with some thread (or wire) attached to them.
You move the bobbins in sequence according to a pattern. It is literally an analog algorithm.
If you have any familiarity with the history of computers and history of machine made cloth and lace, there ya go. Machines that made cloth and lace were the first computers. They used complex punch cards to weave.

Had today a long meeting finally in person with a colleague in #physics who lives and works in the West Bank (Nablus) and periodically come to Europe and #CERN with the family.
