Robot Diver<p>I keep seeing these bizarre posts about "the trade war" starting. Which leads me to believe that a lot of people don't understand tariffs or how they work. Americans pay the tariffs that the US places on Canada.</p><p>Yes, it affects Canada economically because we export to you, but the cost of the tariff is not a cost to us, it's a cost to the American people, the final consumer who is is eating the cost that the American importer just paid on the tariff. </p><p>We placed tariffs on our side which will affect Canadians to slow the amount of imports coming in as a retaliation to Trump placing those tariffs and slowing our economy, but they don't affect Americans directly. </p><p>So yeah, when you freak out at the cost of your next power bill or whatever the fuck else, because you import a whole bunch of Canadian goods, remember that you have to thank Trump for that price.
