Finally in the headspace to be reading Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

What I appreciating so far as a survivor is how they talk about the complexities of acting around their abuser. He was incredibly calculating in his cruelty, but they managed to find the strength to exploit his emotional weaknesses, which is ultimately how they escaped. Powerful stuff!
