A file server written in #Python that does it all: copyparty

Amazing how so many features and development went in one tool. This why I love #FOSS.
The video is brilliant as well: https://youtu.be/15_-hgsX2V0?si=x8RBx_O61crAchfQ
In many home networks this might be a much better option than something like #NextCloud. Just run it on a #Linux system and go.

This is your firendly reminder that on #KDE you can make windows remember where you last put them and what size they are by following the steps in screenshots:
Please note, that the descriptions what the various options do will NOT appear unless the whole list is opened.
This was your friendly #Linux reminder. Thank you for your attention, and see you next time.
VirtualBox 7.2.0 is out — and it's a big one. Rejigged UI, support for running Windows ARM VMs, and (at last) hardware video decoding support in VMs on Linux hosts.

There's a new #Linux distro in development, #omarchy headed by DHH of Ruby on Rails fame.
He feels good enough about it to make the default OS for his employees at 37 Signals.
Rather than attempt to copy Mac or Windows, it leans into a distinct aesthetic with tiling window management and no toolbars on terminal apps and some web apps.

Right now Omarchy is #ArchLinux + #hyprland plus some scripts and customizations.
The "systemctl soft-reboot" #systemd command is so cool

Finally a clean way to rapidly re-start everything other than the #Linux kernel… for me, it is extremely useful to be able to do that after applying desktop & graphics stack updates, and to be able to log back in within 10 seconds.
Throwing the idea out here: it would be very nice if someone figured out a way to write a #GNOMEShell extension to provide "Soft reboot" as an alternative to cold reboot!
As #Microsoft goes further down the #AI rabbit hole, and the looming end of life for older Windows machines approaches, now is a good time to have a #Linux talk with your friends, family, and coworkers.
Every person you convince to switch is one less potential revenue stream for a very problematic company and a win for open source software and developers.
Yeah, I know, your friends and family have been sick of hearing about it for years, but now might actually be the time.
Question for Windows users :
What stops you from switching to Linux?
Have been researching linux distros for new newbies, currently thinking it's between Ubuntu and Linux Mint initially. Doesn't have to be set in stone and can try others later, maybe on my existing laptop.
If like me you use Arch Actually, note that there seems to be significant unavailability of much of the website right now, including the AUR contributed package resource.
Doing some testing with #ThinkPad this week to see how long-lasting they are. Spoilers, they outlast Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 10.
This is why I love these machines. Video to follow.

@matuzalem I use #Linux and #BSD on both my personal and business systems exclusively. I don’t even use #Microsoft365. Additionally, I wouldn’t consider using #GoogleWorkspace either. My business systems are completely on-premises. No cloud.
