Friday morning: I've never held a microcontroller, Why did I buy a soldering iron, this seems too complicated, What even is YAML?

Sunday afternoon: I've built four thermometers and integrated them into my homeassistant setup! I'm so cool!

There were some steps I think could have been better described in a guides I found. I'm thinking of maybe doing a writeup, but I don't know if anyone would read it, that's not my usual style of writing 🤓

Will continue this little side project when I grab some expanding foam to seal the openings in the water jug and use it to make sure the water goes where I want it to go in the waterfall. All kind of happens at once because the can is not reusable.

The stuff isn’t cheap either.

The good news is the forecast is for a rainy day so perfect for turning off the pond pump. Any water lost should hopefully be replenished naturally.

Underneath everything is the reservoir and filter system

I snagged a 140L storage box with wheels at a 70% discount, and fitted it with a drainage tap + quick connect inlet.

I’m using brass quick connects everywhere I can, to make my future jobs easier 😂

The filter is gravity based - water enters at the top, through a nylon screen to remove ferret 💩, and then through a typical pond filter. This then goes directly into the reservoir and gets cycled through the system again by the pump

Apparently my update didn’t post 🙃

Finished the topcoat, and setting everything up! First test of the motor went well, but on a subsequent test it conked out and now the impeller doesn’t spin… might be time to check eBay for a replacement! #diy

Rainy weather, but the hauling continues.

Going to have a big stack of wood in the yard! Trying to put it near the splitting place without blocking anything.

Strangely, hauling logs in the rain makes me feel much more alive than hacking away at a computer keyboard fixing code for enthusiastic, yet doomed tech startups. :think_bread:

This weekend I went along to a great shed building course. We built the wooden base frame and flooring for this caravan! A highly enjoyable course, learnt a lot, and really cool to construct something and see it coming together.

Course was run by Ian Watt just outside Alyth if folks are looking.
