Geoffrey Gevalt<p>The thing people don&#39;t understand about old people is that we really DO want to remember the name of that great movie we watched several weeks ago which we want to tell you about but can&#39;t remember its title. It starred, oh what WAS her name? I think she was in Downton Abbey. Oh, no, you&#39;re right, she was in The Office. </p><p>But what was the name of that movie? The movie we just watched. Two weeks ago. </p><p>You don&#39;t remember either? Damn. Geoffrey Gevalt<p>I don’t know whether I ever was able to do two things at once — if I was, certainly I didn’t do them well. </p><p>But now that I am an old fart, it takes more focus to do one thing well — as in, more concerted focus, as in, don’t get distracted, stay on task.</p><p>Maybe it’s always been that way. Geoffrey Gevalt<p>What young people don&#39;t understand about old people is that we&#39;re cranky, sometimes, for a reason. Our bones ache; we are constantly going down to the basement &amp; forgetting why we went down, only to get back to the top step and remembering. We wake up in the middle of the night and can&#39;t get back to sleep; we forget people&#39;s names, even people we know; and we have that awkward moment of introducing someone whose name we should remember to someone new whose name we just forgot. <a href="https://me.dm/tags/gettingold" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>gettingold</span></a> <a href="https://me.dm/tags/500c" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>500c</span></a></p>
