Kasey Fu
One thing I learned while writing and distributing my first book was that marketing a book takes as much work as writing the book itself.

Think about it - if you're self-publishing, you have to start marketing early. You gotta start with your close circle of friends/family, circle back to interested buyers, and then distribute it across web platforms. You have to collect email/contact lists, find creative ways to post, and get author reviews.

Indie writers need more publishing support!

Kasey Fu
This probably goes for everyone, but playing instrumental background music (preferably from a video game) while I write almost instantly boosts my efficiency 😋 especially if its music that fits the vibe of the story or scene you're writing.

Just no vocals 😆

Kasey Fu
This is quite obvious, but I think it's nice to hear for sake of motivation:

For all current and aspiring writers: successful authors are the ones who are DISTINCTIVELY relentless.

I think one of the major factors that sets them apart from the rest is their ability to CONSTANTLY output quality content for countless years without giving up. Everyone has amazing writing - so it becomes a numbers game: eventually one of those pieces will generate success.

So don't stop or feel discouraged!

Kasey Fu
I've always argued that building a "writing habit" may be better than setting "writing goals."

Goals restrict you to the amount you set yourself up to achieve. That sense of accomplishment after hitting your word count might hinder your from pushing further.

Habits are built to last. Your word count may be inconsistent, but writing every single day will compound over time.

Kasey Fu
Any suggestions on what I can write about and how I can get more involved on Mastodon? Thanks in advance! 😁

Kasey Fu
First post on Mastodon, testing out the platform! Very cool idea, love the decentralized concept!
