“He is introspecting, but he’s not introspecting by meditating on his existence or talking to a therapist (though maybe he should); he’s introspecting by acting on the world. He’s introspecting by doing stuff and then observing how it makes him feel—as if he was running a million small experiments trying to figure out the composition of this object that is Nick Cave.”

From @avdi@avdi.codes:

“The truth is I still put a lot of pride into being Very Good At Ruby. I cling to that pride, sometimes. I want to show that I’ve “still got it”. In a life drowned in caregiving and homemaking and survival, I often feel like I’m vanishing. Like I have so much still to offer, if only—and then there is screaming from another room, and I must defuse a meltdown, or mediate an argument, or make a belated dinner, or chase down a meds prescription, or or or…”

‘This morning, as I wrote my morning pages, I felt a little fearful. All my life I’ve yearned to be creative. I frequently think, “If I only had more time, I’d…” All those things I’ve said I wished I had more time to do — write, draw, learn French, exercise, meditate — now it’s time to see if I really do want to do them. What if time was just an excuse? I guess that would be okay. I’d learn what really does matter to me. Maybe it turns out I like the idea of being creative more than I actually am creative. Maybe what I really love is long walks and sitting in the garden reading books.’

This is so geeky and I love it. Detailed analysis of international sourdough samples.

“A couple of years ago, I participated in a study of the HealthFerm Citizen Science group in collaboration with the VUB Brussels and ETH Zurich universities. The study, called the Citizen Science Sourdough Project, aimed to collect and map micro-organism samples of sourdough starters with the help of citizens like you and me. As a sourdough bread nut, of course I was more than happy to send a sample. And then years passed and I completely forgot about the research project.”

#Minecraft journal: we switched to the Create: Ultimate Selection mod pack last week or so. Today A+ showed me the chain system she rigged up to get to a village some distance away. Nice leisurely chain ride there, then we hung out in that village a bit, and then I used the waystone to get back. She also showed me the blaze spawner she found in the Nether. I used creative mode to turn it into a simple blaze farm. She felt the urge to automate it, so she set up some deployers with axes and was very satisfied when it worked. This is promising.

Second day in our #Minecraft Java FXNT Create world (v1, not 2, as A+ prefers this one). I've got a tree farm and a basic Create workshop (press, mixer, grindstone, washing station, smoking station), W- dug a tunnel to a nearby village, and A+ is in creative mode and she's building a dispatch centre so that we can do food deliveries to the village or something like that. I set up a 2x2 pulley drill to go all the way down, and I'm raising cows so I can make backpacks.
