I think it's worth talking to real people about how they feel about AI as a counterbalance to the massive PR hype campaign that we mostly see. Hint: it's very negative as evidenced by the comments on my post about Medium's new stance.
@misc@mastodon.social yeah this was a great call Jesse!
@coachtony It's about time someone draws the line. You've done well! I salute you.
@coachtony
Reading that actually makes me more likely to pay for a Medium subscription...
@coachtony good for everyone who wanted that! I was just getting into writing on medium again but I guess it’s back to writing on my own website for now then.
@xavez What's the why behind that?
@coachtony I like my writing to contribute to ML models because I strongly believe that it’s a lifting tide that lifts all boats. Even if a small amount of companies will make a lot of money because of it I recognise that my contribution is just a drop in a bucket of statistics. I’m here for sharing what I learn with people or ML models, it’s all the same to me.
I’m also perfectly fine with others disagreeing with that point of view. Don’t want to convince anybody one way or the other.
@coachtony I see you have GPTBot in robots.txt. If your intent is to block 'em all, there are a few more rules you can put in there (to the extent the leeches care to respect a voluntary text file, but you know that bit already). @coachtony Wow you're awfully quiet the last few days as writers are going into meltdown across the Medium platform while their earnings are tanking across the board. What in the world is going on. Stats are way up, earnings are alost non-existant. Algorithm problems, my foot. I had a lot of respect for Medium, but this tone-deaf silence is of concern.
