My Kids love #StarTrekProdigy, and I am so sick of #DarkTrek. I just want #StarTrek that I can watch with the whole family.

I used to watch Star Trek with my dad and family several times a week while growing up, and I'd love to do that with my kids now. We are sorely lacking #Kids #SciFi

@jdavidnet @billmason @startrek SF is always a product of its time. But I am with you, way too much of both fiction and film are too dark, angry, depressing and ugly.

For another stark example, compare 2001 and 2010.

@rdviii @jdavidnet @billmason @startrek My favorite example of that is the shift between Alien and Aliens. Alien, which came out before Reagan was elected, was a single alien hunting everyday people while (after) Aliens was a squad of ubermenchen hunting a horde of aliens.

The later Space Odyssey entries were fairly optimistic. 3001 especially

@Harrison I was thinking more of the movies here, but I did read the third book but not the fourth. Long time ago now...

I’d love to see some serious medium budget #70sStyleSciFi camp. Stuff like Krull, Flash Gorden, Barbarella. French Comic SciFi. The style of #Moebius or other glam / bubblegum SciFi pop.

Everything doesn’t have to have fate of the world, fate of the Galaxy stakes. I’d love to see some low stakes, goofball SciFi.

@jdavidnet @rdviii @billmason @startrek I'd watch a Space:1999 remake too. That show caused a world shortage of beige for years.

Agreed. Prodigy was a solid Trek show for kids. Loved the title sequence, in particular.

One avenue to give kids age-appropriate sci-fi is to run an RPG for them. Modiphius released a simplified version of their Star Trek Adventures game called Captain's Log that would be accessible to kids down to middle school with some coaching. It's designed for solo, but would easily work as a guided adventure for one or more kids.

Well yeah but have you considered how it won’t make enough money for billionaire execs?

Have you considered the $20 they’d need to pay the writers and actors over the next decade? Think of the poor profits.
