Adam Overland
Until the Road Calls Again

My reintegration into society has so far gone poorly. I am cold all the time now, trapped in the godforsaken midwest again, nothing alive inside to keep me warm. This is the land of the sun-eater, that huge and horrible beast who drags his knuckles across the frozen ground, sending flakes of his dead skin into the wind-whipped and colorless sky.

http://adamoverland.com/2025/04/01/until-the-road-calls-again/

Adam Overland
Earth is like a Big Garage

I’m currently at Cholla Campground, Tonto National Forest—billed as one of the largest solar-powered campgrounds in the United States. Since they don’t have electricity at the campsites, I’m not exactly sure what that means. All the bathroom lights are solar powered, I guess, and they have hot showers. But the extent of the solar appears to be bathroom rooftop solar (better than no solar, considering this generally burning hot location).

http://adamoverland.com/2025/03/19/earth-is-like-a-big-garage/

Adam Overland
Adapting to Life in a Camper

I’m coming up on 65 consecutive nights in the camper, and while I always leave my return open-ended, it seems like 60 days or so is the point each year where I start thinking about heading home. I miss seeing my friends, of course, and I miss the relative comfort and familiarity of my house. I miss the familiar faces of people in the neighborhood, and that dog that always barks for no reason.

http://adamoverland.com/2025/03/12/adapting-to-life-in-a-camper/

Adam Overland
We the people, but they the people too

Out of about 150 posts here in the last 2+ years, I’ve written about politics around 5 times, and I really don’t want this to become a primary space for that, if only for my own sanity, but also because I want readers to be able to take a break from the constant barrage of negativity and, as of late, …

http://adamoverland.com/2025/03/07/we-the-people-but-they-the-people-too/

Adam Overland
Big Sur and Death Valley, nature’s best exfoliant

How do you catch up with documenting your travels and other experiences after you’ve taken a two week break from writing and life has gone on and therefore many experiences have come and gone is a question I’m not going to try to answer here but instead illustrate through a series of photos, captions, short interludes, and possibly bullet points. …

http://adamoverland.com/2025/03/04/big-sur-and-death-valley-natures-best-exfoliant/

Adam Overland
Greatest hits of my blog vs. my favorites

Does this look like a fish? I am not good at art. I did one of these about a year ago, where I checked out my blog stats and looked back on the most popular blog posts. It’s interesting to me to see what makes this list, versus my own personal favorites. The most popular post of all time continues to be the most juvenile: the one with “boob” in the title (actually there are two of these), “

http://adamoverland.com/2025/02/18/greatest-hits-of-my-blog-vs-my-favorites/

Adam Overland
Is this DEI?

Every February I get a little nervous about work. For the past five years or so at the University of Minnesota, I’ve written a recurring Black History Month feature we call “Where It Starts.” In the series, I interview a mix of Black students/alums/faculty about one or more of a few themes: 1) Overcoming an obstacle 2) Finding your community and 3) Finding or fulfilling your purpose.

http://adamoverland.com/2025/02/17/is-this-dei/
