Large hospitals buying EHRs, but not shopping around

Almost half of large (200-plus bed) U.S. hospitals have indicated that they plan on buying a new electronic health record system by 2016. However most of them already have decided what they're going to purchase, according to a new report from Orem, Utah-based KLAS Research.

The survey of 277 hospitals found that of those desiring a new system, 34 percent have already selected a vendor, and another 44 percent were strongly leaning toward a particular vendor; 22 percent have yet to decide on a vendor. The report also found that hospitals were shifting their focus from the need to meet Meaningful Use to concerns about vendor consolidation and using outdated technology. Announcement
