What we want to try and do is move away from the shiny shiny culture of purchasing the latest and greatest tech and focus more on the real world perspectives of using this technology in the field. What works well, what you find annoying with the goal of feeding that information back to the companies involved with making the hardware.
As a side to this - the ammobox project actually is about getting the major video streaming hosts to understand the value of having community based projects funded that enable events that would never normally stream to their service due to lack of funds and knowledge about web streaming. To get involved through us to empower venues to get their content/message out onto the internet.
The last thing a venue needs to worry about is organising themselves to approach media companies about streaming/covering an event in the social media space. We enable them by using sponsored equipment from sponsors and the equipment goes around from event to event collecting content that has been tagged on our sister site and project rezpondr.
In conjuction with the ammobox and rezpondr websites we are working on a mashup called doorstepr which will effectively give people the ability to advertise their business, show their media, or talking about their events for free in their hyperlocal area, therefore starting the conversation by having access and learning about these digital tools so they can produce content themselves. We currently have an application into 4ip regarding expanding doorstepr into something more useful than the current mockup we have.
We have a little way to go with the ammoboxproject to build up the posts and traffic to the site but some of the people coming onboard as guest writers are fantastic, well known in the community and either active videobloggers, media producers or content directors. We looking forward to seeing how it pans out. We hope you'll drop by the site and also follow us on twitter.
