Oh this was hard to sit on, i was lucky to be one of the early beta testers and i have only been given permission to talk about it today but i have been testing it on my macbook pro (because i needed HD playback and that is sketchy on the appletv if im being honest) - some really good stuff in this release - anyone for bbc iplayer support? :)
new with this release - added three new applications:
- iPlayer (UK only)
- MTV Music (some content US only)
- Joost (some content US only)
changes in this release
- new engine for playing MP3 content. please test your music library as well as Internet audio podcasts.
- improved Netflix playback, including performance improvements and proper video scaling.
- DVD ISO and .ts rip playback improvements.
- windows sharing (SMB) library update. should affect stability mainly, but regression testing is important for playback performance, e.g. excessive buffering, quit playback instead of buffering.
- video playback library update.
- playback from within RAR files should work.
- several changes in the library.

- ssh into your apple tv, user name frontrow, password frontrow (if asked for passwords during the process, frontrow is always the password). then:
- wget http://dl.boxee.tv/boxee-0.9.7.4723.dmg
- sudo -S hdiutil attach boxee-0.9.7.4723.dmg
- sudo -S installer -pkg /Volumes/boxee-0.9.7.4723/boxee-0.9.7.4723.mpkg -target /
- sudo -S hdiutil detach /Volumes/boxee-0.9.7.4723
- sudo -S chown -R frontrow:frontrow "/Applications/Boxee.app"
- sudo -S chown -R frontrow:frontrow "/Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/BOXEE"
- /Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/MacOS/Boxee -usf
- /bin/sync
- run boxee as usual.
linux
- go to System > Administration > Software Sources
- in Sources Software dialogue, select Third-Party Software tab, click Add, and enter:
- for Hardy Heron: deb http://apt.boxee.tv hardy test
- for Intrepid Ibex: deb http://apt.boxee.tv intrepid test
- in terminal do: sudo apt-get install boxee
