Aspire One Netbook - quick review.

I recently picked up a 8.9" netbook as it will be the only size that will fit in my new bag (i know really sad right?) I removed the linux "handholding" os that was on it and put on windows xp until someone gets a wifi driver working on the hackintosh. I know the graphics says running mac osx as i still have that planned.

So i wanted to quickly go over some of the things i have found with it and i know people would rather have a video so i intend to do that pretty soon, maybe when i take it to the mac os. So let me get onto a few things..

    - i put windows xp on because i needed wifi & usb2 camera drivers that work
    - i have ordered the 6hr cell battery at an extra £67
    - order the linux version for £215 (ish) and save yaself on the windows xp £299 version.
    - get yourself or borrow an external usb2 dvd drive to install different os on.
    - if you want to do it oldskool, geek 1.0 way see youtube usb thumbdrive nlite hacks
    - the mouse buttons are on the side of the trackpad (FAIL) get a wireless mini mouse
    - the screen clarity at 1024×600 are great ( i use it mainly for evernote and blogging)
    - the speaker(s) are ok, not very loud and no bass so headphones all the way
    - the internal crystaleye webcam should be called laggyeye and shite framerate eye
    - keyboard is actually ok to use once you get used to it and can type pretty fast on it.
    - 120 gig harddrive seems quite zippy.
    - install linux linpus was "ok" but i wanted it for incar too and linux did not cut it for that.
    - very light, textbook size and fits inside a kata 3n1 21 bag pretty good.
    - you can get all the windows drivers by searching "aspire one windows drivers"
    - a 3g module is getting released for $95 very soon (internal 3g a good backup)

Overall i have found that the laptop suits my car and train needs and that is part of the reason for windows. I'm hoping to make it a hackintosh when the wifi drivers have been released and work perfectly - then the incar games can begin! :)
